Metal materials for spectacle frames

1. Gold-enhanced material: It takes a golden silk as the basis, and its surface is covered with a layer of open (K) gold. There are two colors of open gold: white gold and yellow gold.

A. gold

This is a golden metal with good ductility and almost no oxidative discoloration. Since pure gold (24K) is very soft, when using gold as a spectacle frame. It is mixed with additives such as steel and silver to make it into an alloy to reduce the grade and increase the strength and toughness. The gold content of spectacle frames is generally 18K, 14K, 12K, loK.

B platinum

This is a white metal, heavy and expensive, with a purity of 95%.

2. Open gold and package gold

A. What is open gold? The so-called (K) gold is not pure gold, but an alloy made of pure gold and other metals. Pure gold is gold that has not been fully integrated (that is, not incorporated into other metals). The open gold used in business refers to the ratio of pure gold to other metals in the alloy, expressed in (K) numbers, which is expressed as a multiple of one-fourth of the total weight of gold, so 24K gold is pure Gold. 12K gold is the alloy containing twelve parts of pure gold and twelve parts of other metals, and 9K gold is the alloy containing nine parts of pure gold and fifteen parts of other metals.

B. Gild

Gold-clad is the meaning of quality. In the manufacture of gold-clad, one layer of base metal is wrapped with one layer of open gold, and the final material specification is the ratio of open gold used and the number of open gold.

There are two ways to express gold coating: one-tenth of 12 (K) means that one-tenth of the weight of the frame is 12K gold; the other is expressed by the amount of pure gold contained in the finished product; one-tenth 12K gold can be written as 5/100 pure gold (because 12K gold contains 50/100 pure gold). Similarly, one-twentieth 10K gold can be written as 21/looo pure gold. By analogy, both yellow gold and white can be used to make gold-clad frames.

3. Copper alloy material

The most important copper alloys are brass, bronze, zinc cupronickel, etc., and brass and cupronickel are commonly used in the glasses industry.

A. Copper nickel zinc alloy (zinc cupronickel)

Due to its good machinability (machinability, electroplating, etc.), it can be used for all parts. It is a ternary alloy containing Cu64, Ni18, and Znl8.

B. Brass

It is a binary alloy containing cu63-65% and the rest is zn, with a yellow hue. The disadvantage is that it is easy to change color, but because the chip is easy to process, it can be used to make nose pads.

C. Copper nickel zinc tin alloy (Bran Kas)

In this quaternary alloy containing Cu62, Ni23, zn1 3, and Sn2, it can be used for edge silk and printing factory-shaped symbols due to its excellent elasticity, electroplating properties and excellent corrosion resistance.

D. Bronze

This is an alloy of Cu and sn alloys with different properties according to the proportion of sn contained. Compared with brass, because it contains tin sn, it is expensive and more difficult to process, but because of its excellent elasticity, it is suitable for edge wire material, and the disadvantage is that it is not corrosion resistant.

E. High-strength corrosion-resistant nickel-copper alloy

This is an alloy containing Ni67, CU28, Fc2Mnl, and 5i. The color is black and white, with strong corrosion resistance and poor elasticity. It is suitable for the ring of the frame.

Almost all of the above five copper alloys can be used as the primer for gold-plating materials and the primer for electroplating in spectacle frames produced at home and abroad.

4.Stainless Steel

This is an alloy containing Fe, Cr, and Ni. Good corrosion resistance, with different characteristics with different additives. High elasticity, used as temples and screws.

5. Silver

The very old-fashioned frames are made of silver alloy. Only foreign long-handled glasses and some decorative clip-on glasses are still used as raw materials for modern ones.

6. Anodized aluminum

The material is light, corrosion-resistant, and the outer layer of alumina can increase the hardness of the material. And it can be dyed into various eye-catching colors.

7. Silver nickel

Department of copper and nickel alloy, and then add zinc bleaching. It makes the appearance silver, so it is also called “foreign silver”. It is strong, resistant to corrosion, and cheaper than gold-clad. Therefore, it can be used as a child’s frame. After the frame is made, pure nickel plating is applied to make the appearance brighter.

8.Titanium (Ti)

This is a light-weight, heat-resistant, and corrosion-resistant metal that has attracted the attention of various industries. The disadvantage is that there are many factors that affect the instability of the machined surface.

9. Rhodium plating

Electroplating rhodium on the yellow gold frame, the finished product is a white gold frame non-metallic material and synthetic material with stable performance and satisfactory appearance.
